The Johari Window is a model for self-awareness, personal development, and understanding relationships. It consists of four quadrants or 'panes'. The 'Open' area represents what is known by the person about him/herself and is also known by others. The 'Blind' area represents what is unknown by the person about him/herself but which others know. The 'Hidden' area is what the person knows about him/herself that others do not. Finally, the 'Unknown' area is what is unknown by the person about him/herself and is also unknown by others. The primary goal of using this model is to expand the 'Open' area, thereby increasing self-awareness and improving communication. This is typically achieved by soliciting feedback from others (reducing the 'Blind' area) and through self-disclosure (reducing the 'Hidden' area).
A manager decides to implement the Johari Window model as a mandatory team-building exercise. Which of the following approaches, if not handled with extreme care, could paradoxically undermine the model's objective of fostering trust and self-awareness?
