The use of **digital technologies in the process of teaching and learning a language** has radically transformed the classroom. Social media, podcasts, vlogs, and online platforms offer new opportunities for students to engage with the language outside the classroom. However, the use of technology is not a panacea; it needs to be carefully planned and integrated into the pedagogical practice. The teacher has the role of guiding students to use these tools critically and effectively for language learning, ensuring that technology serves as a means to an end, and not an end in itself. A teacher who understands the potential and the limitations of technology can create a more dynamic, engaging, and relevant learning environment, preparing students for the linguistic and communicative challenges of the digital age. The challenge lies in using technology as a pedagogical tool that complements and enhances, rather than replaces, the teacher's role as a mediator of learning. For instance, using social media in the classroom can be a great way to promote interaction and production of authentic texts, but it also requires the teacher to address the issues of digital citizenship, online safety, and the critical analysis of the information that circulates on these platforms.
Considering the use of technologies in language teaching, evaluate the following assertions and the relationship between them.
I. The mere presence of digital technologies in the classroom, such as tablets and computers, guarantees a more effective and engaging teaching and learning process,
PORQUE
II. Technology is a neutral and self-sufficient tool that, when integrated into the classroom, naturally transforms the teaching and learning process, regardless of the pedagogical approach or the teacher's planning, and does not require specific training or critical reflection from the teacher.
