Literary genres are fundamental categories for the study of literature. From the classic genres (epic, lyric, dramatic) to the most contemporary ones (graphic novel, fan fiction), genres offer a framework for understanding the characteristics, conventions and expectations of different types of texts. For the English teacher, the approach to **literary genres** should be dynamic, recognizing that genres are not static, but evolve over time and are constantly being redefined by cultural practices and technological innovations. This dynamic perspective is crucial for students to be able to navigate the vast and ever-changing landscape of contemporary literature and to recognize that new genres, such as podcasts or video games with narrative elements, can also be a source of aesthetic and critical value. A teacher who adopts this view prepares students for the challenges of a world where literary and media genres are constantly hybridizing. This approach also allows the teacher to connect the study of literature with the students' own experiences with different forms of media, making the learning process more relevant and engaging. The challenge lies in helping students to recognize the specificities of each genre without falling into a rigid and prescriptive approach.
