Using Mockups and Exploratory Simulations

Testing the accuracy of models and the usefulness of a proposed system calls for capturing the actual dynamics of work. Developing a mockup of a proposed system and simulation strategy to allow users to interact with it allows systems engineers, human factors engineers, organizational designers, technologists, and users to work together to design useful systems. This strategy significantly reduces the risk associated with blind technical development. Developers´ expectations about how users will use a system are often incomplete. Users often use various tools and interfaces in completely unforeseen ways – and in many cases better ways – than those intended by the designers.
